Teresa’s most fortunate Tai Chi and Qi Gong journey with Master Jacquie Walther
After forty years, I still own and run (part time) Teresa’s Academy of Dressmaking and Tuition. Designing, making and teaching students to make made to measure creations for special occasions and every day wear. As a result of all those years, my joints and muscles had become accustomed to sitting and sewing. Luckily my mother inlaw’s Doctor suggested she do Tai Chi for her Diabetes.
My fortunate Tai Chi journey was about to begin. I gladly enrolled both of us in a Tai Chi and Qi Gong Exercise Medicine class because deep down I knew this would be good for me. My mother inlaw insisted the slow movements could not possibly help. With encouragement from Master Jacquie Walther and the group we soon able to do the free flowing movements without pain or being puffed.
Within a few years Jacquie had me instructing the Mulan Qi Gong session. Jacquie was asked to conduct another class. She simply did not have the time. So, if I would be so kind as to do this for her, Jacquie assured me, I was ready, I knew and understood enough of the Tai Chi routine to instruct the beginners class. While Jacquie was able to instruct, I continued to learn so much from her, until sadly she had to retire. Thank you very much Jacquie.
Thankfully Jacquie also suggested I enrol in the Dr Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Health Progams
at the Arthritis and Osteoporosis Foundation of WA
The slow, relaxed, low impact, targeted movements over time cultivates Qi (Life Energy) to improve the circulation to the organs and throughout the whole body while gently stretching, stablising and strengthening the muscles. The muscles are then better able to support the targeted joints. The flow and weight transfer of each specific movement and transition to the next movement has been designed to be safe and effective by Master Dr Paul Lam. Dr Lam in conjunction with Tai Chi associates and a team of medical experts considered the available medical evidence, both orthodox and traditional Chinese medicine, for each and every Tai Chi for Health Program.

Any one can enrol in an Instructor Workshop. Workshops are supervised by Master Trainers supported by Senior Trainers. When the student is ready and able to demonstrate they possess the required knowledge and expertise and they can pass a written test, then they are they are Certified.

Traditionally Tai Chi and QiGong are performed in the outdoors in touch with nature. Unfortunately the weather is not always so kind. Here at the Mundaring Wellness Centre we are able to enjoy year round, perfect air conditioned comfort. The panoramic windows of give us an opportunity to see the gardens, so it is easy to imagine we are outdoors.

There are a number of small class groups for different levels of ability.

As a Senior Trainer and Premier Certified Instructor Teresa can draw on many years of experience to easily adapt or modify the movements to suit each individual if you have general aches and pains, a specific ailment or health condition. For those who have balance issues or a walking aid, the movements can be done in a seated position.
